Healthy Diet Zone FAQ'S
Here are some FAQ's people commonly ask about living in the healthy diet zone:
Why do we need a healthy diet?
A healthy diet is an important INGREDIENT in every family's living. Having a healthy diet is one of the most important things that
you can do to improve your overall health. Along with physical activity, your diet is the key factor that affects your weight.
Having a healthy diet is sometimes easier said than done. It is tempting to eat less healthy foods because they might be easier
to get (or) prepare, or they satisfy a craving. A little learning and planning can help you find a diet to fit your lifestyle, and
maybe you can have some fun in the process!
Why should we be health conscious?
Being overweight (or) obese increases your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and stroke, breathing
problems, arthritis, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis and some cancers. If you want to live a long, healthy life you have to be
health conscious.
What is your BMI and how does it relate to health?
Checking your Body Mass Index (BMI) tells you if are overweight (or) obese. Women with a BMI of 25 to 29 are considered
overweight whereas women with a BMI of 30 (or) more are considered obese. You may be surprised to find you are overweight!
All adults (aged 18 years or older)who have a BMI of 25 (or) more are considered at risk for premature death and disability from
being overweight (or) obese. These health risks increase as the BMI rises.
You should also consider getting your body fat tested to determine how much fat you may need to lose when establishing your
healthy diet profile. A personal trainer can help you determine how much body fat you have and compare these results with your
BMI to give you a full healthy profile.
… So how can we enjoy a healthy diet AND reduce our risk of illness?
The answer is SIMPLE…
A healthy diet contains plenty of fruits and vegetables and healthy carbs or "starchy" foods including wholegrain bread, whole
wheat pasta and wild rice… and is low in fat (especially saturated fat) ,salt and sugar.
Give your body the balanced nutrition it needs by eating a variety of nutrient packed foods every day. Just be sure that
you eat in moderation. That's EASY!
